The Board while undertaking the construction of dwelling units at different locations in the City, has also ensured simultaneous development of Shopping / commercial areas for meeting the day to day requirements of the residents through construction of Convenient shops / Service Booths / Bay Shops in Sector-38(W), 48-A, 49-A, 49-B, 51 – A, 61 & Modern Housing Complex, Manimajra etc.
The process of slum rehabilitation of slum families scattered over 18 colonies in the City was started under the banner of ‘Chandigarh Small Flats Scheme – 2006. The beneficiaries under the scheme were identified through Bio-metric survey conducted in 2006 by Estate Office UT., Chandigarh. CHB has completed Construction of 17696 Small Flats under Slum Rehabilitation Scheme till date as per detail given below:- The present status of Slum Rehabilitation in the City is as under:-

Government of India has appreciated the various initiatives undertaken by the Chandigarh Administration/CHB in the process of implementation of the Slum Rehabilitaion Project and recognized the work at various occasions as listed below :-
(i) In the year 2009 Chandigarh got the Award for the ‘Best City in Implementation of Earmarking of Land for the Poor under Slum Rehabilitation Programme implemented under the Govt. of India Assistance under JNNURM (Basic Services for Urban Poor) which was implemented by Chandigarh Administration/CHB. An Award in this respect was presented by the Prime Minister of India to CHB on 3.12.2009. The Award carried a Trophy and a cash incentive of Rs.2 lac.
(ii) In December, 2010 Chandigarh has got another award for ‘Best City for planned habitat for Urban Poor’. The award carried a Trophy and Rs.3.00 lac cash prize in the name of Chairman, Chandigarh Housing Board.
(iii) Chandigarh has also been awarded for ‘Best City for Planned Habitat for Urban Poor’ in year 2014. The award was presented to Chandigarh Administration & CHB in a function presided over by His Excellency Honorable President of India in New Delhi on January 21 st 2014. The award carried a Trophy and Rs.3.00 lac cash prize in the name of Chairman, Chandigarh Housing Board.
(iv) Chandigarh Housing Board has been awarded with HUDCO award for best practices to improve the living environment 2015-2016 under the category of ‘Housing, Urban Poverty and Infrastructure’. The award has been received by Sh. Maninder Singh, IAS Chairman CHB on 25.4.2016 during the function held at India Habitat Center, Lodhi Road, New Delhi. The award comprises of Momento and a cheque amounting to Rs.1.00 lac. The award was given by Dr. M. Ravikanth, IAS, Chairman-cum- Managing Director, HUDCO. The function was presided over by Sh. Venkaiah Naidu, Minister of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation, Govt of India.
(v) CHB has been awarded “BEST PERFORMING STATE/UTs FOR IMPLEMTATION OF ARHC UDNER MODEL 1” in 2021 by Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, GOI.

The Block ‘B’ Building is constructed as Green & Intelligent Building, CHB. Following measures to save energy, water, reduced waste and to create sustainable built environment have been taken :-
1. Efficient water flow fixtures with flow restrictors/low flow fixture selection (Potable water savings of around 30%).
2. On-site STP for 100% waste water treatment and reusing the STP treated water for flushing, irrigation to further reduce the potable water demand.
3. On-site rain water harvesting to recharge the ground water.
4. Energy saving of around 20% with various energy efficient measures.
5. On-site Integrated Solar Power Generation 50 KWP to reduce grid demand.
6. Integration of all Energy metering system to BMS for central monitoring and control.
7. Electrical Vehicle Charging Points in the basement parking.
8. Energy Efficient LED indoor and outdoor lighting with partial automation.
9. Social concern- supporting facilities for differently abled persons (Reserved toilets, ramps with handrail, lift considered with Braille and audio assistance etc.)
10. Occupant’s health & well being facilities within the building.
11. Provision of fresh air in all spaces for better indoor air quality and to avoid sick building syndrome.
12. Provision of 2x160 KVA UPS in the building for Data Centre and emergency Light.
13. DGU glass used for energy efficiency.
14. SR tiles used on roof top to reflect heat radiation.
CHB had earlier completed the construction of Two Single Storied Office Blocks – Block ‘A’ & Block ‘C’ in the year 1983 and 1993 respectively.
